Work Abroad
Mentor Program
The Work Abroad Program now offers a Peer Mentor Program for students who are preparing to go abroad. This program matches students who have an upcoming international work assignment with students who have already completed an international work assignment in the same country.
For Work Abroad Returnees:
Those of you who have returned from working abroad can probably remember back to the many questions you had as you prepared for going abroad. From your feedback, it’s clear that a peer who’s already had the experience of working abroad would be one of the best people to help guide students who are just now getting ready for the experience of their life. The responsibilities that are involved when joining the mentor program are:
- Allow the WA office to give your email/phone number to prospective students
- Answer prospective students inquiries on some of the basics for preparing to be abroad, for example:
- Language, culture, money, dress code, housing, packing tips
- Estimate time commitment is approximately 1-5 hours per semester
For Prospective Work Abroad Students:
Do you have questions regarding your preparations to work abroad? Are you curious about how to exchange money or the professional dress code in your future host country? If you’ve answered yes to either of these questions, then we have a solution! Contact the Work Abroad Program and ask to speak with one of our peer mentors. We will assign you to a Work Abroad Returnee who’s returned from your future host country.
If this program interests you, please email workabroad@dopp.gatech.edu to notify the Work Abroad office of your interest to become or to contact a Work Abroad Mentor.
