Did you know? Georgia Tech students can work in companies around the world through the Work Abroad Program?

Work Abroad Exchange Programs

Some of these programs will assist you in getting work permits and will provide information to help your job search. Others will actually place you in a particular position beforehand. The fees for services vary from program to program, as do the wages. Generally speaking, you can assume that you will make enough money to cover your expenses; however, it can never hurt to save before you go! Programs usually run for a period of a summer or semester, but in some cases, you may be able to obtain a permit to work for up to 18 months. The following organizations can help you if you choose to work abroad through an exchange program:

  1. AIESEC - GT Chapter
    E-mail: aiesecga@gatech.edu

  2. IAESTE - GT Chapter

The Steuben-Schurz-Gesellschaft e.V. (SSG), Germany’s oldest German-American friendship organization, has been dedicated to promoting cultural understanding between the peoples of Germany and the United States for nearly 60 years.
In 1999, in an effort to strengthen the relations between the youths of both countries, the SSG established the USA-Interns program, an internship exchange program that provides German and American university students with the opportunity to work and live abroad, thus allowing them to gain first-hand insights into the culture, history and daily life of the guest country. The SSG has acquired the support of numerous organizations, institutions, companies and individuals on both sides of the Atlantic willing to provide foreign students with internship opportunities. The positions cover a broad range of fields including business, international relations, engineering, PR, media, the natural sciences and the humanities in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors. The internships typically last 2-3 months and take place during the summer. In some instances internships during the academic year are available. The level of the tasks to be completed depends upon how advanced the student is in his/her studies and their language abilities. Our participating companies believe as strongly in cultural exchange as we do and are enthusiastic about providing you with a unique and personal experience. If you are interested in this program, make an appointment with the Assistant Director of the Work Abroad Program, Debbie Gulick at debbie.gulick@dopp.gatech.edu.
